What is aquamarine?
Named “Water of the Sea” from a Latin phrase “Aqua Marina”, this stunning gemstone gets its name because of its bluish appearance, like the sea waters.
But what is this beautiful stone all about? The moment I held one crystal in my hand, I wanted to know more about it – what formed it? How did it get its gorgeous colour? What makes it flawless? Transparent? Why does it feel - so – peaceful?
Regal, classy, elegant and beautiful – an aquamarine stone is one of nature’s rich mineral resources. The Aquamarine is a part of the family of a mineral called “Beryl, composed of Beryllium, Aluminium and Silicon Dioxide. The gemstone is allochromatic – meaning it gets its colour due to presence of other substances in it, mainly due to the Iron (FEO)and Ferrous. Therefore the depth of its colour depends upon the amount of Iron present within the stone. Really gorgeous blue stones come from Canada – True Blue Aquamarines and from Brazil – Santa Maria.
